The Labrang Monastery is located at the foot of the Phoenix Mountain northwest of Xiahe County in Gannan Tibetan Nationality Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province. A propitious place in the hearts of the Tibetan, it stands by the Daxia River and faces the Dragon Mountain. 4 hours driving south of Lanzhou.
Maiji Mountain Grottoes（麦积山石窟）
Located near Tianshui, a major city in Eastern Gansu Province, Wheat-Pile Mountain (The Maiji), reputed as the "Oriental Sculpture Museum,"is 142 metres high.The name comes from the fact that the mountain looks like a stack of wheat. 5 hours driving east of Lanzhou.
JiaYuGuan Pass Town（嘉峪关）
A variety of scenic spots are included in Jiayuguan Scenic Zone such as Jiayuguan Pass Town, The First Beacon Tower of the Great Wall, Overhanging Great Wall and Great Wall Museum and so on. Jiayuguan Pass was not so much as the “Strategic Pass Under the Heaven” as an important communication center in Chinese history. Cleft between the snow-capped Qilian Mountains and the rolling Mazong Mountains, it was on the ancient Silk Road. Zhang Qian, the first envoy of Emperor Wu Di of the Western Han Dynasty (206 B. C. ～ 25 B. C.), crossed it on his journey to the western regions. Later, silk flowed to the west through this pass too. 750 km northwest of Lanzhou. 7 hours driving or 1 hour flight.
Dunhuang Mogao Caves （敦煌莫高窟）
Dunhuang is a renowned tourist resort famous forthe Mogao Caves.In ancient times, Dunhuang wasthe center of trade between China and its westernneighbors. With the flourishing of trade along theSilk Road, Dunhuang quickly developed to becomethe most open area in international trade in Chinese histoiy. Over 1,000 caves were cut out ofcliffs in Dunhuang. The caves reflect Silk Road civilization and important aspects of Chinesepeople's religious life, art, and customs in histoiy, including the introduction of Buddhism to China during this period. Dunhuang grottoes have always been regarded as the nationaltreasure of China.
Echoing-sand Mountain, Crescent Lake, and Leiyin Temple（鸣沙山 月牙泉 雷音寺）
Echoing-sand Mountain is located 6km south of Dunhuang city proper,and this ranges of sand dunes winds on from Mogao Grottoes in the east, to Danghe Reservoir in the west,altogether about 40km long,20km wide,rising up at a relative height of dozens of meters.The highest spot is its Southwest Peak of the rear mountain, about above sea level,while the primary peak of its front mountain is 1,240m above sea level.It is o named because, under the human tread or wind blow,the sand produces a sound like a string instruments horn,a drum,or that of rumbling thunder.
